Oscar-Winner Pleads With President Biden For Brittney Griner Return In Acceptance Speech

Ben Proudfoot’s ‘The Queen of Basketball,’ made with Shaquille O’Neal and Stephen Curry as govt producers, tells the story of Lucy Harris, the only woman to be drafted by the NBA and the initial Black lady inducted into the Basketball Corridor of Fame.

On acquiring the Oscar, Proudfoot utilized the moment to contact on President Joe Biden and urge him to obtain the release of two-time Olympic gold medalist and top rated women’s player Brittney Griner, who is jailed in Russia. “President Biden, bring Brittney Griner property,” Proudfoot explained.

Griner was arrested at the airport in Moscow, where she played in the off-season and accused of having hashish oil in her baggage.

“If there is any individual out there who uncertainties that there is an viewers for woman athletes and inquiries regardless of whether their stories are important or entertaining or essential … permit this Academy Award be the remedy,” Proudfoot, who is from Halifax, said at the award ceremony in Los Angeles, via the Affiliated Push.
